Last week I felt the immediate need to run away and have myself an Ego Day. I know the ego gets a bad write up these days, and I do agree we mustn’t let it over-run us, but equally, we need it. It makes up part of who we are, and some days we must give it a little massage to help ourselves feel a bit more foxy. I was feeling up to my limit with work and different time pressures, all creative thinking had gotten up and stropped out the building. So, when I woke up that morning I decided to take myself off for some me time.
When I feel like this, I usually head into Leamington Spa – it’s about 30 minutes from me, has loads of independent stores and some of the better multiples too like Jaegar & L.K. Bennett amongst others. Wandering around the back streets seems to reveal new treasures every time I visit.
“. . . I’ve learned some of my best make up techniques from these girls . . .”
Anyway, one of the main pulls to Leamington Spa is SpaceNK. I love it. Part of the reason it makes me so happy to shop there is I trust the girls in their stores and they are not commissioned to work for one brand only. They really understand their product ranges and listen well when they are with you. I’ve learned some of my best make up techniques from these girls.
So, with the definite need for a treat, I headed in and started sniffing out some seriously good new treats.
After a good browse through and some testing of product, we landed upon the Lipstick Queen counter. I’ve not used her products before and was so in love with the packaging and the colours. Dreamy.
The lady behind the brand is Poppy King. Australian born and wholly dissatisfied with the lipstick choices she had as a teenager, she decided to take some action and create the perfect lipstick herself, and oh my goodness I am glad she did. I am a total convert! Smiling up at me from the shelf were three beautiful products – Frog Prince, Cupid’s Bow and Queen Bee. All new for Summer 15.
Frog Prince is a delight! Bright green in colour and in a lipstick container, this product goes on sheer, warms up on your lips, settles with your body’s pH & natural colouring then finds the perfect pink for you. It’s light, sheer, gently cheeky and perfect for light days when you want a bit of fairytale romance for your lips.
Enriched with Shea Butter to moisturise and Vitamin E to soothe and protect, Frog Prince is made to not only pretty up those rose-bud lips but to keep them soft and kissable too. At the time of writing, Frog Prince was £22.00
Next to catch my eye was Queen Bee. This is a lip treatment designed to leave a glamorous bronze-gold finish. It’s aim is to soothe, repair and hydrate with ingredients designed to pamper your pout such as Royal Jelly, chamomile and sunflower extract. Added to this, the fact it smells like honey, you have yourself the most delicious treat for your lips I’ve seen in a long time. At time of writing, Queen Bee was £20.00
“. . . was wooed immediately by Cupid’s Bow . . .”
Normally I’d want to try a selection from all I had seen but was wooed immediately by Cupid’s Bow. I tried on Desire first, which for me is the perfect true-red. It has a bluey undertone which is perfect for my skin tone and is very easy to wear.
I must tell you Cupid’s Bow glides onto your lips. It is in jumbo pencil form and drenched with pigment. The finish is a satin-matte and leaves lips feeling cushioned and perfectly pouty.
One of the key benefits for this lip colour is it contains tourmaline, a precious mineral sourced from metamorphic rock found in Brazil and is revered for its energising and radiance-boosting properties. There are eight colours available in this particular line and I would find it too hard to choose just one.
I’ve never found a matte lipstick that I like, always finding them to be very drying, which then looks awful by mid-morning, when I end up slathering on some 8 Hour Cream to fix the dry feeling and then immediately lose the matte effect anyway. I cannot tell you how many matte lipsticks I’ve thrown in my nieces direction after being disappointed.
This is SO not the case with Cupid’s Bow! I purchased them a week ago, have worn them almost every day since and in that time we’ve had spicy 35 degree days down to cooler 18 degree days and Cupid’s Bow has stayed absolutely solid. From 8 a.m. to mid-evening, only a very light touch up was needed. To say I am impressed is a wild understatement. At time of writing, Cupid’s Bow was £20.00
After choosing these colours I skipped out the store with Desire, my velvety true-red and Apollo, a rich, deep wine-red packaged up in one of those gorgeous SpaceNK black bags and a handful of samples for me to play with later.
Ego? Massaged! Smile? Huge! I was feeling a whole lot more foxy and after just 4 hours away from the office I was walking tall with a new strut, a whole new feeling of moxi and a desire to get back into the office and start creating again.
