As October draws to a close, it feels like Autumn is in full swing and we have the promise of party season just around the corner.
For me, it all begins with the excitement of Guy Fawkes night where we celebrate the foiled plot of Guy Fawkes’ to blow up The Houses of Parliament back in 1605. He intended to kill King James and the King’s leaders by putting gunpowder in the cellars and us Brits have never forgotten it . . . any excuse for a celebration, right?!
So Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated on the 5th November, where we all get together, usually in a huge field in the pouring rain and stand around a huge bonfire watching fireworks fill the sky, eating toffee apples, hot dogs and drinking cider. Perfect!
So we all know you come here for the booze and not for the food recipes, so I shall get on with showing you these two cider-based cocktails that I featured over on my Periscope channel this week . . .
Rum & Cider Warmer
What you need . . .
2 shots rum
1 1/2 shots brandy
1 shot cider – a good quality still cider
1 tsp maple syrup
1 shot lemon juice
ice
apple slices to garnish
What you do . . .
fill a cocktail shaker with ice
shake all ingredients vigorously
strain and serve in a martini glass
place a slice of apple on the side of the glass
Cranberry Apple Cider Cocktail
What you need . . .
2 shots cranberry juice
1 shot fresh orange juice (smooth)
1 shot vodka
1 bottle cider
apple to garnish
What you do . . .
fill a cocktail shaker with ice
put in cranberry juice, orange juice & vodka
shake well
strain into an ice filled glass
top with cider
garnish with a slice or two of apple
The first of these two is a strong, winter warmer cocktail, like central heating in a glass! The second option being a longer, more refreshing drink but with the lovely kick you get from the vodka and cider mix.
What are your favourite cider based cocktails? I’d love to hear about them ♡ As always, feel free to join in the conversation in the comments, or drop me a line over on social media using the links on the top right side.
